Apawamis (Rye), the first tribe of woodcrafter girls, had been founded in fall 1914, when a group of girls had separated from Camp Fire Girls in Rye. Sam Comly – Little Eagle, the brother of one of the girls, had been the Tally Chief of the tribe Black Bears (Port Chester/Rye) that had existed from 1906 already; its members had belonged to the youngest generation of Woodcraft Indians.
