There is no way of so widely separating people as by a variation of education, and although America is a democratic nation and the high school system is supposed to break down social barriers, as a matter of fact we do not accomplish much in the way of democratic education through the schools, because the people who most need simple, general instruction are not sent to the public schools, but to special educational organizations where they gain much that is beautiful but not the kind of human intercourse which would be so valuable.
